ORPHANAGE COMMITTEE MEETING:

Next Orphanage Meeting------TBD

News From Casa Hogar

Our Prescott Casa Hogar Committee has had two very positive meetings since our last Newletter has gone to press.  These meetings are held at 10:00am just prior to our General Meeting at Las Fuentes and all are invited and welcomed to join in.  Your attendance is a guarantee that you will be up to date on the news from Caborca and the plans that we are making here in Prescott.
One unanimous decision made at the last meeting was to continue our support of Casa Hogar.  Most members are aware that there was some confusion with the delivery of donated supplies, and that they went to another Orphanage in error.  Well, it was not the plan but the bottom line is the children, so.....the immediate needs were well served. We have taken steps to resolve this and have decided to start again with the collection of needed articles. We learn as we go..
The Caborca committee has sent a request for some specific things they would like. These are pretty basic and include bed linens for twin beds, quilts, towels, washcloths, bottles and nipples, underwear for children 3 months to 16 years, baby carriages, highchairs, blenders, toasters, and juicers.  They also listed certain building supplies; however, we have been told that the City Fathers of Caborca have provided $20,000 in supplies since the list was made.  This will allow them to complete the block work on the building that will house the caregiver Nuns.  This is the first step needed before they can bring children to the Orphanage.  Good news to know that the City has stepped up along with certain physicians and professional and business people there
A second house has been raffled off but it was less than profitable.  They were only able to cover their expenses with the proceeds, but their commitment remains solid.  They are sending mailings to most Caborcan physicians, soliciting their help, and asking them to provide funding for doors, windows, cement and other needed building materials.  You recall that all the labor for this building project is on a volunteer basis also.
We are promised a short progress note each time their committee meets and we have received a complete list of their committee members in response to our request for this.  We have released no further funds after the first $500 given and are currently working with them to set up a means to wire transfer any donated funds directly into a specific bank account for Casa Hogar.
So, in a nut shell, or may I say a Taco shell, that's it for now. We are still collecting and ask that you save a corner in your garage with these listed things set aside there.  When we know how, when and where they will be transported, we can gather them and send them down to our Caborcan friends and Casa Hogar children.  Keep up the Spirit!!
